Well been a few again, I am going to have to set up a schedule that says WRITE on your blog!!!! John has decided that he wants to get away next weekend for a short mini-vacation. SO, I have one free night from Hotels.com to use and a shoestring to finish out the weekend. Any suggestions? I was thinking about going downtown (Atlanta) since I also have gift cards for Benihana and that would be fun to be able to use those for a special night out. Ideas, discounts, coupons, contest anything that might make it memorable would be welcome. I plan on taking pictures and tweeting and FB'ing about our time.

Blood test and Twitter Chats my week so far

Went to the NP Tuesday morning to get the results of our bloodwork, after a few weeks of worry about John's we got some good news his A1C is down a little, some of the liver numbers are holding steady and while 1 went up the other went down. She said that it looked better than last time and even the ones going up are doing it very slowly. We will have a week vacation next week so we will do some work for my aunt and have a cookout on the 4th at her house I have been tweeting and facebooking hard this week I am set on winning a vacation for John as a surprise. If you get a chance you need to check out the travel chat #expchat sponsored by Expedia they give away a $500 gift voucher every week. I also have learned some great stuff on the #winchat sponsored by Microsoft and featuring all kinds of different sponsors who give away all kinds of cool technology.

Life over the last 6 months, how things can change in an instant.

It has been a while since I last posted to my blog, I know bad bad blogger. A lot has happened in my life over the last 6 months so I will tell you a short and sweet or not so sweet version of it before I get back to the business of blogging. We were puttering along like we always have been John working me going to classes and the kids doing their thing, our baby graduated this year so it has been an eventful time. John has blood work done every 3 months just like I do due to diabetes so when he went to get his results for the first time I did not go with him since I had class. When I got out and went to the car to go home and asked how it went he told me that our NP had told him she was sure he had either liver cancer or bone cancer. Needless to say I did not know what to think or even how to think for the next little while. We talked on the way home and called a Gastroenterology specialist and were told it would be 3 weeks before the first available appointment. Over the next week we spent hours online looking up all the information we could find and none of it was good. The recovery rate for liver cancer is practically 0. John had already told his brothers and sisters and I my aunt but not the kids (our kids are 23, 21, and 18) so we called my daughter who does not live with us and asked her to come over without the kids. I had to tell them because John did not have the words and I did not really either but we did. Weeks of waiting and worrying and every little twinge a cause for panic and we finally get to see the doctor. He looks over his test and says not cancer, we knew he had Hepatitis C (probably from either EMT work or cancer surgery in the late 70's early 80's) but his numbers were going up and he wanted to test for genotype (anyone with it knows what I mean) and to see if it was just a positive result or if it was active. Type was 1a (hardest to treat) and active so we started talking about treatment. Now treatment for some can mean over a year of shots and pills that sometimes make you so sick you have to quit taking it and all of that for a less than 50% chance of it working. SO, more test! The next time we went back he told us that the test show he has advanced cirrhosis (even though he had not been sick at all, which is not uncommon) and that we needed to contact a transplant specialist because even if treated it would probably lead to needing a transplant. One of the first tings on the transplants doctors website is how to raise money for your transplant! we have health insurance after years without but it in no way will cover the cost of that even if he was a candidate with his other problems. He has been so great through this all and the kids also, they still yell at him and don't treat him any different and our son even offered part of his liver. We sat down and are making some hard decisions, we have decided not to treat (even if it was available) and to just watch and wait, he has blood test every 3 months that the doctor will look over and if there is anything we need to know he will call. So as of now we are treating every day as if it was the last and doing all the hard things like living wills, medical and legal power of attorneys, insurance, and figuring what we need to do to make things comfortable if we need to. He may live another 10 years (he will be 60 next month)or die from old age or he could get sick tomorrow and be gone in months. That is the horror of this disease you can have it for years and only find it when it is too late. They are now recommending anyone born between 1945 and 1965 be tested. CDC I am doing my practicum this semester (I do 90 hours of observation in a 4th grade classroom) and then next semester I will do my student teaching. We just keep on doing what we are doing and hope for the best. I went to the #typeaconathome twitter party tonight and I have finally decided to get in my office (since I got a pc for it) and get back to blogging this summer and be in the swing when school starts back. One goal I have set for myself tonight is to be able to go to TypeA.com in 2013 TypeA so I am going to start a conference piggie bank and save, save, save. I am going to convince John it is a "vacation" and get him on-board with the idea also. Now I am going to Twitter, and FaceBook and Blog to my hearts content and look for sponsors for next years and maybe something in Atlanta. Now to something FUN we have planned for this year in October (the weekend of our anniversary as a matter of fact #27) we are planning to go to the NASCAR NASCAR race at Talledega Speedway SO if anyone needs a social media representative on the ground (we may even camp infield not sure yet, depends on if we rent an RV or what we do) then I am your girl. I will Tweet, FaceBook, post pictures and even video for my sponsors. I will do my best to post every day with book reviews, deals I find, fun things I see or hear, links I think you might be interested in, just any old thing I think anyone looking might find fun or informative. Thanks for reading my long winded but heart felt post.
